Product Description

War Nickels

War Nickels are the only silver nickels minted by the United States Mint. The Jefferson War Nickels contain 35% silver and were minted from the end of 1942 through 1945. These nickels are particularly rare because, as the name indicates, most 5 cent pieces were typically minted with nickel. However, World War II prompted the rationing of commodities, and nickel was highly useful for various military purposes such as armor plating.  As a result, the US Mint minted nickels with 35% silver, with the remaining composition consisting of copper and manganese.

These wartime silver nickels are easy to identify and simple to own. Every wartime Jefferson nickel containing silver bears a large mint mark on the reverse of each coin. It is located just above the Jefferson's Monticello home and below the motto "E. Pluribus Unim."

Silver war nickels are a great investment for those seeking low premium silver because they are typically priced substantially lower than other bullion alternatives. In addition, many investors choose to invest in 35% silver because they provide as a feasible unit for barter.

Each bag will contain a variety of Silver Jefferson War nickels with an assortment of years, conditions, and mint marks. These coins are securely packaged and shipped in a cloth coin bag.

Please note: Jefferson Wartime Nickels are bought and sold in terms of pieces, not face value. Please indicate the total number of pieces you wish to purchase in the quantity field. There is a minimum purchase of 2,000 pieces for this product ($100 face value).
